Sunshine Coast Ash Drop Service FAQs – Everything You Need to Know

Written by Edgar Ball

❓ Have Questions? We’ve Got You Covered.

Choosing to scatter ashes by drone is a beautiful, modern way to say goodbye—but it’s also a new idea for many families. At General Drone Memorials, we believe in clarity, trust, and compassion. That’s why we’ve answered the most common questions families ask when planning an aerial memorial on the Sunshine Coast.

🌤️ Is it legal to scatter ashes by drone in BC?

Yes. In British Columbia, scattering ashes is legal on crown land, over water, and on private property with permission. We only fly in legal, pre-vetted locations that avoid national and provincial park boundaries.

🚫 Why not just scatter ashes ourselves?

You can—but we want you to be aware of what often happens. Ashes are extremely fine and can blow back onto your hands, clothing, or face, especially in the wind. Many families are surprised at how stressful the moment becomes.

With General Drone Memorials:

  • You won’t need to handle the ashes directly
  • You won’t get covered in them
  • You’ll avoid awkward or uncomfortable experiences

We take care of the difficult parts so you can focus on the farewell.

🗺️ Where do you offer ash drops?

We serve the entire Sunshine Coast, including:

  • Gibsons
  • Sechelt
  • Roberts Creek
  • Halfmoon Bay
  • Pender Harbour
  • Powell River
  • Lund
  • Jervis Inlet
  • Desolation Sound
  • Howe Sound and nearby islands

We also offer low-cost ocean drop sites near Gibsons.

📹 Can we record or livestream the event?

Absolutely. We offer:

  • Livestream ceremonies for remote family and friends
  • Professionally edited memorial videos with drone footage
  • Options to personalize with names, music, or voice messages

Or, if you prefer no recording, we simply conduct the ceremony with full respect and privacy.

⏱️ How far in advance do we need to book?

While we try to accommodate urgent requests, we recommend booking at least 1–2 weeks in advance, especially if you’re requesting a custom location or video package.
